Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Devil candles show the horned figure of the Devil, and are burned in conjure to dominate, tempt and gain power over a situation, and in Satanic and left-hand path devotion. In candle magic a black candle is burned for protection, banishing, binding and work with the dead.
Uses in the Work
Burn it at a crossroads altar for pacts, skill-granting rites and commanding spirits. Carve your petition and the spirit’s sigil into the wax, dress it with Black Arts or Lucifer oil, and leave tobacco and liquor as payment when the flame is spent.
