Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A chalice is a ritual cup, the vessel of the element of water and the feminine principle in witchcraft and ceremonial magic. In the Christian Mass it holds the wine of communion.
Uses in the Work
Fill it with wine, water or another liquid as an offering to a spirit, and share a sip with the spirit as an act of communion. In ritual it stands at the west for water. Combine it with the athame in the symbolic Great Rite of witchcraft, and use it to hold blood offerings or a potion charged during the rite. Consecrate it before first use and keep it only for ritual.

Lore
The Holy Grail of Arthurian legend was a chalice of miraculous power. Dragons in European myth guarded treasure and sacred knowledge, and in alchemy the dragon stood for prima materia, the raw stuff of transformation.
