Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Goddess candles show the divine feminine, and are burned in devotion to goddesses such as Hecate, Lilith and Astarte, and in workings for fertility, intuition and women’s power.
Uses in the Work
For devotion to the goddess in her many forms: maiden, mother and crone, and the dark feminine of Hecate and Lilith. Burn it on Monday, the Moon’s day. Offer milk, honey, flowers or pomegranate, and speak her names. Black belongs to Saturn and the night: banishing, binding, protection, adversarial and shadow work, and the darkness from which light emerges. Burn it on a Saturday, in the hour of Saturn.
