Origin & Traditional Use

This is a scented jar candle made for a specific intention, poured into glass so it can burn safely for many hours. Jar candles are used as devotional lights and for workings that need to be held over several days. Samhain candles are burned at the Gaelic festival of summer’s end on 31 October, when the veil between the worlds is thinnest and the dead are honoured.

Uses in the Work

For Samhain, the witches’ new year, when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest. It is used for necromancy, ancestor work and divination. Burn it on the ancestor altar with photos, bread and wine. Set an empty place at the table for the dead and scry in a black mirror while it burns.
