Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Male and female figure candles represent a specific person, and are named, carved and dressed to work on them for love, healing, domination, protection or cursing, depending on the colour.
Uses in the Work
A gendered figure candle that stands in for a specific person in sympathetic magic: to draw, bind, heal, influence or hex. White serves every purpose. It stands for illumination, consecration, purification and the Morning Star aspect, and it can substitute for any other color in a pinch. Burn it on a Monday or Sunday. Carve the person’s name and birthdate into the wax and dress it with the oil that matches your aim. For drawing work, burn it toward you; for banishing work, burn it pointing away.
