Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A fourteen-day jar candle is a large candle poured into a glass jar, made to burn over about two weeks for long, sustained workings. Long-burning jar candles grew from the vigil lights of Catholic devotion and were taken up by Southern conjure and Latin American botanicas. In candle magic a blue candle is burned for peace, healing and protection.
Uses in the Work
A fourteen-day vigil, half a lunar cycle of continuous flame, for workings that must be held and fed over a long stretch. Blue belongs to Jupiter and the waters: peace, wisdom, healing, protection and calm after storm. Burn it on a Thursday or Monday. Begin on the New Moon to grow a condition, or on the Full Moon to wane one away. Dress the surface with a few drops of oil and a pinch of herb, and set your petition paper beneath the glass. Refresh your intent at the same hour each day as it burns.

Lore
Fourteen days is the passage from dark moon to full, or full to dark. Practitioners time long vigils to ride the tide of the Moon rather than fight it.
