Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Separation candles show two figures standing back to back, and are burned in conjure to drive two people apart and end a relationship.
Uses in the Work
Two figures back to back, burned to drive a couple, friendship or partnership apart. Black belongs to Saturn and the night: banishing, binding, protection, adversarial and shadow work, and the darkness from which light emerges. Burn it on a Saturday, in the hour of Saturn. Carve a name on each side and dress the candle with a separation, banishing or Black Arts oil. Some lay black walnut hull and mustard seed between the figures, or a strand of each person’s hair to tie the candle to them.
