Black Cat pillar candle

$16.45

Description

Origin & Traditional Use

A pillar candle is a thick, free-standing candle that burns for many hours, the traditional altar candle of churches and temples. Pillars suit long workings and are often carved and dressed over several sessions. Black cat candles are burned for luck, especially in gambling, and to reverse curses and bad luck, drawing on the black cat’s double reputation as both unlucky and magically powerful.

Uses in the Work

The cat figure, ancient companion of witches, burned for luck, protection, glamour and work with familiar spirits. Black belongs to Saturn and the night: banishing, binding, protection, adversarial and shadow work, and the darkness from which light emerges. Burn it on a Saturday, in the hour of Saturn. Dress it with Black Cat oil for luck and reversal, or with attraction oil for glamour. Burn it near the door to watch over the home, or on a familiar altar.
