Description
Origin & Traditional Use
An 8-inch figure candle in the shape of a witch, poured in black wax. Figure candles are used in folk magic so that the shape of the candle stands for the person or power the working is about.
Uses in the Work
Use it to represent yourself as the witch in workings of personal power, protection and banishing, or to represent a rival practitioner to bind or reverse their work. Carve your name or a sigil into the base, dress it with oil, and burn it over several nights. Black draws in and absorbs, so it suits uncrossing, protection and dark goddess workings with Hecate or Lilith.
Pairs Well With
Mugwort – 1 oz; Wormwood – 1 oz; Hecate Statue
Lore
Figure candles grew out of the European tradition of wax poppets and were popularised by American spiritual supply companies in the twentieth century. The witch shape is especially popular at Samhain, the night the veil is thinnest.
