Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Patchouli is a bushy herb of the mint family from Southeast Asia, its dried leaves distilled into the dark, earthy oil used in perfume and incense. In folk magic it is the classic herb of money, lust and the earth.
Uses in the Work
Use it for money, lust and grounding. Add it to prosperity powders, green candles and business petitions, and burn it in Saturnian and earth-element incense. It is a key herb in sex magic and in workings with Asmodeus and Lilith. Grave dirt substitutes often include patchouli because of its dark, earthy smell.

Lore
Patchouli comes from the Tamil words for “green leaf”. Indian silk merchants of the nineteenth century packed their cloth with patchouli to repel moths, and Europeans came to associate the scent with luxury. It became the scent of the 1960s counterculture.
