Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Rosemary is the woody, pine-scented herb of Mediterranean cooking, used with roast meats, bread and potatoes. In European folk tradition it was burned in sickrooms, laid with the dead and used in weddings, and in magic it is a herb of protection and memory.
Uses in the Work
Use it for protection, purification, memory and remembrance of the dead. Burn it as a substitute for frankincense in any working, hang a bundle at the door to guard the threshold, and add it to cleansing baths before ritual. Place a sprig on the ancestor altar when you call on the dead, and burn it while studying the grimoires so the knowledge stays with you. In spirit work it makes a gentle cleanser that clears the air without banishing the spirits you have invited.
