Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Dried red rose buds and petals are used in teas, potpourri, rose water, cosmetics and confectionery across the Middle East and Europe. In magic the red rose is the supreme flower of love, passion and desire.
Uses in the Work
Use them in love, lust and passion work. Scatter them on the altar in rites to Lilith, Asmodeus, Sitri and the Venusian spirits, and add them to love baths, sachets and red candle dressings. Lay them as an offering of beauty to a patron demon, and burn them in love-drawing incense. A rose bud placed inside a poppet ties the working to the heart.
Pairs Well With
Lucifer Anointing Oil – 2 dram; Venus Planetary Oil – 1 oz; Damiana Leaf – 1 oz
Lore
The red rose was born, Greek myth said, from the blood of Adonis or of Aphrodite herself, pricked by a thorn as she ran to him. Romans scattered rose petals at feasts, and “sub rosa”, under the rose, meant a secret sworn. In alchemy the red rose marks the final stage of the Great Work.
