Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Mandrake oil is a ritual oil associated with the mandrake root, a poisonous plant of the nightshade family whose forked root resembles a human body. It is used in folk magic and witchcraft for power, protection, love and domination.
Uses in the Work
Use it for domination, command and the power of the underworld. Dress the sigil of a spirit you are commanding, or a petition to bend another’s will, and anoint black or red candles in workings of power, lust and control. It is fitting in Saturnian and Hecatean work and in poppet magic, where the mandrake root itself was the original poppet. Keep it for external and ritual use only.

Lore
Legend said mandrake grew beneath the gallows from the seed of hanged men, and that it screamed when pulled from the earth, killing anyone who heard it. Harvesters tied a dog to the root and fled. Joan of Arc was accused of carrying mandrake, and in Genesis Rachel trades for mandrakes to conceive.
