Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Jet is a black gemstone formed from fossilised wood, light and warm to the touch. It has been carved into jewellery and amulets since prehistory, famously Victorian mourning jewellery, and is used as a protective stone.
Uses in the Work
Use it in mourning, necromancy and protection. Wear it as a talisman against the evil eye and psychic attack, place it on the ancestor altar, or hold it while speaking to the dead. It absorbs negative energy and should be cleansed in smoke. Jet carved into a fist or an eye is a traditional protective amulet.

Lore
Jet is fossilised wood from trees that grew some 180 million years ago. After Prince Albert’s death Queen Victoria wore Whitby jet as mourning jewellery, and it became the fashion for grief across the British Empire. Romans carved it into amulets against the evil eye, and pilgrims wore jet scallop shells on the road to Santiago.
