Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Amethyst is purple quartz, the most popular of all crystals, cut as a gemstone since antiquity and found as geodes and clusters. In crystal practice it is used for calm, sobriety, intuition, sleep and spiritual connection.
Uses in the Work
Use it to open psychic sight, deepen trance and strengthen contact in meditation and scrying. Place it on the brow or under the pillow for prophetic dreams, and set it on the altar during evocation to keep the mind clear when the energy of a spirit is overwhelming. It suits workings with Jupiterian and spiritual intelligences, and grids for protection from psychic attack.
Pairs Well With
Mugwort – 1 oz; Lavender Flowers – 1 oz; Moonstone – 1 lb Tumbled
Lore
The name comes from the Greek amethystos, “not drunk”. Greeks carved drinking cups from it and believed it prevented intoxication. Medieval bishops wore amethyst rings to signify sobriety and spiritual authority, and it was set in the regalia of kings.
