Description
Origin & Traditional Use
African bloodstone is a green-grey stone flecked with red, mined in South Africa. Like the classic heliotrope it is used in crystal practice for courage, strength, endurance and grounding.
Uses in the Work
Use it for courage, endurance and the power of blood in ritual. Place it on the altar during blood offerings, oaths and pacts as the stone of life force. Carry it for strength in long or difficult workings and in legal battles, and use it in workings of victory and protection with martial demons. It is also used in weather and rain magic in some traditions.

Lore
Medieval Christians said bloodstone formed when Christ’s blood fell on green jasper at the foot of the cross. The ancients called it heliotrope, “sun-turner”, and believed that put in water in sunlight it would turn the sun red. Pliny wrote that magicians used it to make themselves invisible.
