Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Lapis lazuli is a deep blue stone flecked with gold pyrite, mined in Afghanistan for thousands of years. It was carved into jewellery and amulets and ground into ultramarine pigment, and in crystal practice is used for wisdom, truth and psychic sight.
Uses in the Work
Use it to open the third eye and reach for hidden knowledge. Place it on the brow during meditation and scrying, or on the altar when working with demons of wisdom and secrets such as Bune, Stolas, Marbas or Paimon. It suits work in the Egyptian current with Thoth and Isis, and it strengthens the voice in incantations when worn at the throat.

Lore
Lapis was mined in the mountains of Afghanistan for six thousand years and traded to Sumer and Egypt. The Sumerian goddess Inanna carried a lapis rod and measuring line into the underworld. Egyptians carved scarabs and the eyes of gods from it, and ground into ultramarine it was worth more than gold to Renaissance painters.
