Apache Tears – 1 lb Rough

$31.85

Description

Origin & Traditional Use

Apache tears are small nodules of black obsidian, volcanic glass, that look opaque but glow smoky and translucent when held to light. They are found in the American Southwest and are traditionally carried as comfort stones for grief.

Uses in the Work

Work with it in grief, ancestor and necromantic rites. Hold it while speaking to the dead, place it on an ancestor altar, or bury one at a grave as an offering and a link. Held to candlelight it is translucent, so it is used for gentle scrying into the past. Carry it as a protective stone that absorbs psychic attack without the harshness of black tourmaline, and cleanse it often in smoke or running water.

Pairs Well With

Black Obsidian – 1 lb Tumbled; Jet – 1 lb Tumbled; Myrrh Resin Incense – 1 oz

Lore

The name comes from an Arizona legend of an Apache band driven off a cliff by cavalry rather than surrender. The women’s grief was said to be so great that their tears turned to stone where they fell. It is a form of obsidian, volcanic glass cooled so quickly no crystal could form.
