Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Marriage candles show a bride and groom, and are burned in conjure to bless and strengthen a union, or to bind two people together. In candle magic a red candle is burned for love, passion and courage.
Uses in the Work
The bride and groom figure, used for marriage, commitment, reconciliation or, in its darker uses, to bind two people together. Red belongs to Mars: passion, lust, courage, vitality and martial will. Burn it on a Tuesday in the hour of Mars. Carve both names, then tie the couple with red thread wound seven times while stating the binding. Dress the candle with Hoodoo Binding or love oil.
