Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A figure candle is a candle moulded in the shape of a person, animal or symbol, so that the candle itself stands for what the working is about. Figure candles grew from the ancient practice of the wax image, in which what is done to the image is done to the one it represents. Mummy candles show a wrapped Egyptian mummy, and are burned to bind, preserve and hold a situation in place, or in workings with the dead. In candle magic a red candle is burned for love, passion and courage.
Uses in the Work
A mummy figure for binding, preservation and the slow, wrapped working that holds a person or condition still. Red belongs to Mars: passion, lust, courage, vitality and martial will. Burn it on a Tuesday in the hour of Mars. Carve a name, then wrap the candle in black thread or strips of cloth while speaking the binding. Burn it in short sessions over several nights.
