Origin & Traditional Use

A seven-day jar candle, or vigil candle, is a tall candle poured into a glass jar and burned continuously or in sessions over about a week. It comes from Catholic vigil devotion and is the workhorse candle of Southern conjure and Latin American botanicas. Seven colour candles come from Latin American botanica tradition and the Seven African Powers of Santería, with each colour band calling a different blessing so one candle serves every need.

Uses in the Work

The seven-color candle burns through bands of every planetary color in turn, a single vigil that calls on all seven powers at once. Many colors call on every planetary power at once. Burn one color per day, starting on Sunday with the Sun, to move a working through the whole planetary week. Use it when a situation needs everything at once: luck, protection, money, love and road opening. Some burn one color band per day, starting on Sunday with the Sun.
