Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Taper candles are tall, slender candles that burn for several hours in a candlestick. They were the everyday candle of churches and homes for centuries and are the classic altar and quarter candle. In candle magic a gold candle is burned for the Sun, wealth and success.
Uses in the Work
A taper candle for the altar, set in the color of your working and suited to ceremony, to the pillars of the temple, or to carrying in procession. Gold belongs to the Sun: success, glory, illumination and the solar crown of self-deification. Burn it on a Sunday at sunrise or noon. Carve your sigil or the planetary seal down the length of the taper. Dress it toward the wick to draw or away from the wick to banish, and burn it in the matching planetary hour.

Lore
The planetary hours divide each day and night into twelve parts, each ruled by one of the seven classical planets. The grimoires instruct the operator to time every working by them.
