Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A pillar candle is a thick, free-standing candle that burns for many hours, the traditional altar candle of churches and temples. Pillars suit long workings and are often carved and dressed over several sessions. In candle magic a yellow candle is burned for joy, success and communication.
Uses in the Work
A tall ritual pillar for long rites, temple work and devotional flame. Yellow belongs to the Sun and Mercury: intellect, communication, confidence and study. Burn it on a Sunday or Wednesday. Use pillars as the two pillars of the temple, black for Boaz and white for Jachin, or set them at the four quarters. Carve sigils deep into the wax, since pillars burn long enough for the work to settle.

Lore
Boaz and Jachin, the black and white pillars of Solomon’s Temple, stand on the threshold of every Masonic and Golden Dawn temple. They mark the polarity the initiate passes between.
