Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A poster of the Baphomet, the androgynous goat-headed figure of Éliphas Lévi, symbol of the union of opposites and the left-hand path. Posters are used to dress temple walls and altars.
Uses in the Work
Hang it as the focal image above the altar to define the temple as a left-hand path space. Use it as a gazing focus in meditation and trance, visualising the symbol of balance and the energy of the Sabbatic Goat. It serves as a backdrop for ritual and for self-dedication rites, and can be dressed with Baphomet oil at the corners when consecrating the space.

Lore
Lévi’s drawing appeared in his book Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (1854–56). The hand gestures pointing up and down mean “as above, so below”, the hermetic principle. The crescent moons beside the figure, one light and one dark, represent the forces of mercy and severity.
