Description

Origin & Traditional Use

A black pillar candle decorated with the Tree of Life, the ancient image of the world tree connecting the underworld, the earth and the heavens.

Uses in the Work

Burn it in ancestral, underworld and rebirth workings, and in pathworking on the Tree of Life and its shadow, the Tree of Qliphoth. Black draws in and protects, so it is suited to meditation on the descent into the roots, the hidden side of the self. Carve the names of the dead or the sigils of the qliphoth spirits into the wax before lighting.

Lore

The Norse world tree Yggdrasil linked nine worlds, from Hel at its roots to Asgard at its crown, and Odin hung on it for nine nights to win the runes. The Kabbalistic Tree of Life has ten sephiroth, and its shadow side, the Qliphoth, is the realm explored in much left-hand path work.
