Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A brass chamberstick, a candle holder with a handle and drip tray, made for carrying a taper from room to room. Chambersticks were the everyday light of homes before electricity.
Uses in the Work
Carry a lit taper through the house during a cleansing or blessing, holding the flame into each corner, or walk the circle with it before a rite. Its drip tray catches wax for ceromancy. On the altar it holds tapers for the quarters or the working candle. Use it to burn dressed and carved candles safely through a working, at the quarters, or on either side of a statue or sigil. Keep a holder dedicated to each kind of work, for example one for protection and one for love, so the energy is not mixed. Clean out the wax between workings and read the remains of the candle for messages about how the spell went.

Lore
The chamberstick, or “going-to-bed candle”, lit the way upstairs each night. Many ghost stories begin with a figure holding a chamberstick, and the shape became the image of the haunted house.
