Ethiopian Myrrh – 1 oz

$5.45

Description

Origin & Traditional Use

Myrrh is an aromatic resin from Commiphora trees of the Horn of Africa and Arabia. It has been burned as incense, used in perfume and embalming, and offered in temples and churches for thousands of years.

Uses in the Work

Burn it for the dead, for Saturnian and lunar workings and for spirits of the underworld. Blend it with frankincense for the classic offering incense of the grimoires, and use it to consecrate tools of death, mourning and necromancy. It deepens trance in scrying and meditation, and dresses the altar in devotions to Hecate, Isis and the dark goddesses.

Pairs Well With

Frankincense Tears – 1 oz; Anubis Statue 12″; Raven Myrrh 90-Hour Jar Candle

Lore

Myrrh was used by the Egyptians in embalming, and Herodotus says it was packed into the body cavity of the dead. It was one of the three gifts of the Magi, foretelling death. The Greek myth of Myrrha, turned into a myrrh tree, made the resin a symbol of grief and forbidden desire.

What You Receive

Ethiopian Myrrh resin carries a deep, earthy aroma with warm, slightly bittersweet notes.
