Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Galangal is a pungent root of the ginger family used in Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian cooking, in curries and soups. In hoodoo it is known as “Little John to Chew” or “Chewing John”, a root for court cases, luck and power.
Uses in the Work
Chew a small piece and spit it onto the courthouse steps or the ground in front of an opponent to win a legal case. Carry it as a luck and money root, and add it to protection mojo bags. It strengthens the voice and the will, so chew it before incantations and spoken commands. In demon work, use it to empower a petition for justice or victory with Bael or other demons of authority.
Pairs Well With
Justice Ritual Candle; Crown of Success Oil – 1 oz; King Solomon Oil – 1 oz
Lore
Galangal was so prized in medieval Europe that Hildegard of Bingen called it “the spice of life”. In hoodoo it is the small “John” of the conjure roots, kin to High John the Conqueror. The word comes from the Chinese for “mild ginger from Gao”.
