Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A hanging censer in the shape of a small cauldron, used to swing incense through a space. A hanging censer, or thurible, is a vessel on a chain used to swing burning incense through a space. Thuribles are used in Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican services.
Uses in the Work
Swing it around the circle to cense the boundary before ritual, carry it to each quarter while calling the demons, and use it to fill the temple with offering smoke. It is especially powerful in group ritual and processions. Cense the altar, statue and participants before a rite, and use it outdoors where smoke disperses quickly. The cauldron shape joins the vessel of witchcraft with the thurible of the temple.
