Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A votive is a small candle, about two inches tall, made to burn for around ten to fifteen hours in a holder. The word comes from the Latin votum, a vow, because votives were lit before saints and gods to carry a prayer. Healing candles are burned as a prayer for recovery and wellbeing, continuing the old practice of lighting votive lights for the sick before saints and gods.
