Description
Origin & Traditional Use
A ritual sword is a ceremonial blade used in Western ceremonial magic to cast and guard the circle, command spirits and swear oaths. This piece is styled after medieval European arming swords.
Uses in the Work
Cast the circle with the point, cut doorways in it when you need to leave or admit a spirit, and lay the blade before the triangle of manifestation in Goetic evocation. Use it to direct energy outward at each quarter and to command a hostile or unruly presence to depart. It also makes a fitting oath tool: lay your hand on the blade when swearing a pact or dedication.

Lore
Medieval grimoires such as the Key of Solomon and the Heptameron call for a sword in the operation of conjuration. It was to be forged, inscribed and consecrated on the day and hour of Mars, and it signified the magician’s authority over the spirits.
