Rosemary Votive candle

$4.35

Description

Origin & Traditional Use

A votive is a small candle, about two inches tall, made to burn for around ten to fifteen hours in a holder. The word comes from the Latin votum, a vow, because votives were lit before saints and gods to carry a prayer. Cleansing and releasing candles are burned to clear away negative energy, unwanted influences and old attachments, making space for what comes next.

Uses in the Work

For cleansing and release: to sweep away residue, stagnation and lingering spirits, and to purify the temple before and after the work. Light it, then sweep or smoke the space from the back of the house toward the front door. Open the door to let it all out and close it firmly behind.

Pairs Well With

Hyssop – 1 oz; White Sage – 1 oz; Banishing Spell Mix

Lore

Sweeping out evil with a broom is among the oldest household magics. Brooms were laid across thresholds to keep witches, or spirits, from crossing.
