Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Sulfur, known in the Bible as brimstone, is a yellow mineral that burns with a blue flame and a choking smell. It has been used in matches, gunpowder and fumigation for thousands of years, and in folk magic for powerful protection, banishing and cursing.
Uses in the Work
Use it in powerful banishing, cursing and hexing work. Burn a tiny amount outdoors only, in a well ventilated space, to drive out hostile spirits or to send a curse. Add it to Hot Foot and War powders, and to protective bottles. In Luciferian and infernal workings brimstone is the substance of the underworld, and a pinch on the altar invokes its fire.
Pairs Well With
Lucifer Anointing Oil – 2 dram; Black Arts Oil – 4 dram; Three Kings Charcoal – 10 Tablets
Lore
“Fire and brimstone” is the biblical image of hell and of God’s wrath on Sodom. Homer has Odysseus burn sulfur to purify his house after slaying the suitors. Alchemists made sulfur one of the three principles of matter, the soul and fire of all things.
