Description
Origin & Traditional Use
The Tabula Mortem is a spirit board, a talking board printed with letters and numbers, used with a planchette to receive messages from spirits. Tabula mortem means “table of the dead” in Latin.
Uses in the Work
Use it to make contact with the dead and with demons. Open the session by stating who you wish to speak to and placing their sigil beside the board, and always close properly by moving the planchette to “goodbye”. Ask clear yes and no questions first to confirm who is present before going further. Burn incense and keep a candle lit during the session.

Lore
Talking boards were patented in 1890 as a parlour game during the Spiritualist craze. The Tabula Mortem is a modern design with an occult look, drawing on centuries of letter-board divination, including a Chinese method using a planchette and sand.
