Origin & Traditional Use

The Golden Dawn by Israel Regardie is the complete collection of the rituals, teachings and knowledge papers of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the most influential magical order of modern times.

Uses in the Work

Use it as the core reference for ceremonial ritual: the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, the Middle Pillar, the Hexagram rituals, the grade teachings and the full system of correspondences. Many modern left-hand path rites, including the dark arts LBRP, are adapted from these originals. Keep it beside your book of shadows, and record what you test in practice alongside the author’s method.

Lore

Regardie was Aleister Crowley’s secretary, and he broke the order’s oath of secrecy by publishing its rituals between 1937 and 1940, believing the knowledge would otherwise be lost. Members of the Golden Dawn included the poet W. B. Yeats and the writers Arthur Machen and Algernon Blackwood.
