Description
Origin & Traditional Use
White willow is a riverside tree whose flexible branches were used for baskets, wicker and fences. Its bark was traditionally used in European folk herbalism, and in folk magic willow belongs to the moon, water and the dead.
Uses in the Work
Use it in lunar magic, enchantment and work with the dead. Burn it at the dark moon to call spirits of the night, and add it to love workings and wishing spells. Willow wands are used in water and lunar magic and for divining, and the bark can be used to bind a poppet or petition.

Lore
Willow is sacred to Hecate, Persephone and the moon. Orpheus was said to carry willow on his journey to the underworld, and Greek graves were planted with it. The word “wicker” and possibly “witch” have been linked to the willow’s supple branches, used to weave baskets and brooms.
