Description
Origin & Traditional Use
Nutmeg is the seed of an Indonesian evergreen tree, grated as a spice into baking, eggnog and savoury dishes. In folk magic it is a lucky seed for money, gambling and good fortune.
Uses in the Work
Carry a whole nutmeg as a luck and gambling charm, or put one in the cash register to draw custom. Grate it into money and prosperity powders and incense, and add it to Jupiterian workings. Rub it on green candles before a petition for wealth, or drill it and wear it on a cord as a talisman.
Pairs Well With
Black Cat Bone; Devil’s Shoestring Root – 1 oz; Basil Leaf – 1 oz
Lore
Nutmeg grew only in Indonesia’s tiny Banda Islands, and in the 1600s the Dutch massacred the islanders to control it. In a famous treaty they traded Manhattan to the English to keep a nutmeg island. Hoodoo practitioners carry a whole nutmeg anointed with oil as a gambler’s hand.
